Topics discussed during the Clay County Commissioners’ regular weekly meeting on November 25th included: Delinquent Tax Sale, PRN/EMS Training for 2025, GIS Data Mapping, Suicide Survivors Presentation, and more.
Joel Mason, County Attorney, informed the Board that there will be a Jury Trial in December and January. The Board asked about Delinquent Tax Sale, Mason stated that he has met with Judge Bosch, but no date on the sale has been set.
Alec Trembath, EMS Director, reported to the Board that the Department has been working on the 2025 Training schedule for PRN and EMS employees. The Department will provide 60 hours of training, including some hands-on training. He also stated that they hope to do a Tabletop Exercise for Emergency Personnel in 2025.
Pam Kemp, Emergency Manager, reported that she attended a webinar pertaining to information on a new GIS Mapping program provided by the State. She also stated that she provided letters of support to Presbyterian Manor for a new handicap van and to Wakefield Rehabilitation stating they had participated in developing an Emergency Plan.
Dana Rickley, County Health Director, stated that she attended the Suicide Survivors Presentation Saturday in Clay Center. Rickley also informed the Board that Pawnee Mental Health will start hosting meetings on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of each month starting in December. She stated that the meetings will also be live via Zoom. She also stated that the Health Department will be partnering with CCMC for a Health Fair next April.
Alan Benninga, Sheriff, reported to the Board that it was discovered that mortar on the stone of the Law Enforcement Center was falling in some locations. Benninga contacted the company that did the stonework in 2021, and they are going to take a look at the issue.
Danny Mesalles, County Appraiser presented a residential NRP to the Board. The Board approved and signed the NRP.
April Swartz, Varney’s & Associates, presented the 2023 Final Clay County Audit to the Board. Swartz went over larger funds with the Board. She stated that the audit went well, and all requirements were met with no violations found.
Commissioner Mayo motioned to put Grow Clay County on notice that the County will not renew its contract until it has been re-negotiated with the Board. The motion passed unanimously.
