Road to Close Near Milford State Park for Bridge Replacement

Geary County has received over $698,000 in federal funding for a bridge replacement project on Old Milford Road, located about a mile west of the U.S. 77/Old Milford Road intersection. The project, contracted to Bayer Construction Co. Inc. of Manhattan, will close the bridge for five months, starting Monday, December 2, 2024, with the road expected to reopen in early April 2025.

During construction, Old Milford Road will be closed to through traffic. A detour will redirect northbound drivers to U.S. 77, then west on K-57 to reconnect with Old Milford Road, while southbound traffic will follow the reverse route. Detour signs will be installed before construction begins to guide motorists.

This bridge replacement is part of a federally funded initiative to improve infrastructure in the area, with the contract amount totaling $698,499. The project is expected to enhance safety and accessibility for local and regional traffic once completed.
