The Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks (KDWP) has announced adjustments to the 2024-2025 trout fishing season based on angler feedback. Key changes include shifting trout stocking dates to December 1, January 1, and February 1, aligning with the peak fishing months while minimizing risks to fish health from warmer November waters. After March 31, anglers can fish for trout without a permit, though the daily limit of five trout and a possession limit of 15 still apply.
To enhance the fishing experience, the KDWP will implement fewer but higher-density stockings at popular sites, providing better opportunities to catch fish. Over 62,000 pounds of rainbow trout will be stocked at more than 30 locations, with occasional appearances of rare palomino or golden trout.
A fishing license and trout permit are required for adults, while youth under 16 need a youth trout permit but no license. These adjustments aim to improve the quality of the trout fishing experience while keeping costs manageable.
