Kansas Wildlife Nonprofits Invited to Apply for Big Game Permits to Fund Conservation Efforts

Kansas-based wildlife conservation and hunting heritage nonprofits have a fundraising opportunity through the Kansas Wildlife and Parks Commission’s Big Game Permit program. Eligible organizations can apply for a random drawing to receive one of seven special big game hunting permits, which can be sold to support conservation initiatives. The drawing will occur on January 30, 2025, during the Commission meeting, and applicants need not be present to win.

Applications are due by January 17, 2025. To apply:

  • Visit ksoutdoors.com.
  • Select “Commissioner Permits” near the bottom of the page.
  • Download the “2025 Commissioner Permit Application fillable” form.
  • Submit the completed application via mail or email using the provided instructions.

Each year, up to seven permits are issued, including no more than one elk and one antelope permit, with the rest for deer. Deer permits allow either-species/either-sex hunts statewide during any season with legal equipment and do not count against other permits.

Winning organizations keep 15% of the permit sale proceeds, with the remaining 85% allocated to approved conservation projects. Exceptions apply to Kansas Hunters Feeding the Hungry, which retains 85% for deer processing costs. Organizations may only win once every three years.
