Obituary-JoAnn L. Haist

JoAnn L. Haist, beloved wife, mother, and friend, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 13, 2024, at Sunflower Care Homes of Baldwin City, KS. She was 92 years of age. She was born on June 5, 1932, in Clifton, Kansas to Sylvester J. & Helen R. (Roberts) Gieber.

JoAnn graduated from Haddam High School in 1950.  She received her nursing degree from Marymount School of Nursing in 1953.

On November 30, 1957, JoAnn married James “Jim” L. Haist in Concordia, Kansas at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. They were married for 66 years and to this union, 8 children were born: Debra, Daniel, Michael, Mark, Teri, Thomas, Rodney, and Rita.

JoAnn worked as a registered nurse in several locations including, St. Joseph Hospital, Good Samaritan in Kearney, NE, St. Ann’s, Mt. Joseph Nursing Home and St. Mary’s Convent.

She enjoyed gardening, quilting and making apple pies.

JoAnn is survived by her children; Debra (Ronald) Lawrenz, Lawrence, KS; Daniel Haist, Concordia, KS; Michael (Heloisa) Haist, Wichita, KS; Mark (Teri) Haist, Stockton, MO; Teri (Bradley) Simpson, Canyon, TX; Thomas (DeAnn) Haist, Alva, FL; Rodney (Diane) Haist, Shawnee, KS, and Rita (Rick) Limon, Hutchinson, KS; brother, William Gieber (Marvene), Concordia, KS and sister, Marjorie Blazek, Concordia, KS. She is also survived by 24 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren, many nieces, and nephews.

JoAnn was preceded in death by both her husband, Jim, her parents, Sylvester & Helen Gieber and a nephew, David Haist.

Visitation will be held from 1 to 8 pm on Thursday, December 19, 2024, with a parish rosary/vigil service being held at 6 pm on Thursday evening all at the Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home in Concordia, Led by Fr. Steven Heina.  Family will receive friends after the rosary/vigil service.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 am on Friday, December 20, 2024, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Concordia, Kansas, with Fr. Joseph Kieffer officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Concordia Catholic Cemetery, Concordia, Kansas.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be left to the St. Concordia Catholic Cemetery Fund or the Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church Altar Society, Concordia, KS. Condolences may be left online at www.chaputbuoy.com. Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home in Concordia in charge of arrangements.
