Barbara Jean Britt, 76, died peacefully December, 11, 2024 at the Homestead Healthcare Center in Wichita, Kansas. She was born July 28, 1948 to Martin L. “Bud” Harris & Esther “Marcene” Harris Walker. She grew up in the Broughton and Clay Center area, attending school in Broughton and later graduating from Clay Center Community High School.
Barbara or “Jeannie” as she was always called was a hard worker and held a variety of jobs including working at Beech Aircraft, driving school busses, a Para Educator, working in a Doctor’s and Dentist’s office and many others.
After graduating from high school, Jeannie married Gailen Kruse and to this union was born Daniel Gailen and Jason Bradley Kruse and they were later divorced. She was also married to and divorced KJ Payne. She then married John Britt of Atlanta, Kansas and became a stepmother to Debbie and Mitchel Britt, later they were divorced.
Jeannie was devoted to her family and friends. She enjoyed gardening, dancing and her animals. Jeannie taught herself to play the piano by ear and once took a bus to Texas to see Willy Nelson in concert.
Jeannie was preceded in death by her parents, Martin “Bud” and Esther “Marcene” Harris; stepfather, Don Walker; stepdaughter, Debbie “Britt” Cooke and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
She is survived by her sons, Daniel Kruse and wife, Christy of Wichita and Jason Kruse of Wichita; stepson; Mitchel Britt of Douglass, Kansas; sister, Mary “Fran” Harris Jackson of Iowa;
brothers, Martin L. Harris, III of Wichita and Ron Harris and wife, Lisa of Clay Center; many, many Grandchildren and great grandchildren, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews
and special friend, ex sister in-law Dixie Harris of Wichita.
Visitation will be held from 4-7PM on Thursday, December 19, 2024 at the Neill-Schwensen-Rook Funeral Home in Clay Center, Kansas.
A celebration of life will be held at 10:30AM on Friday, January 17, 2025 at the First Baptist Church in Clay Center, Kansas.
Inurnment will take place in the Broughton Cemetery in Clay County, Kansas.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Barbara Jean Britt memorial fund to be designated at a later date and can be sent in care of the funeral home.
