Governor Laura Kelly has ordered flags across Kansas to be flown at half-staff immediately through sunset on January 28, 2025, in accordance with Executive Order 20-30 and President Joe Biden’s proclamation, to honor the passing of President Jimmy Carter.
“Former President Jimmy Carter was a truly moral man,” Governor Laura Kelly said. “His innate humanity, his humility, his devotion to serving his community and his country, and his belief that the world could live in peace is the remarkable legacy he leaves behind.”
President Jimmy Carter, the 39th President of the United States, received the 2002 Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts to resolve international conflicts peacefully, advance democracy and human rights, and promote economic and social development. Under his leadership, The Carter Center played a pivotal role in nearly eradicating Guinea worm disease, reducing annual cases from millions in the 1980s to just a dozen globally today. Additionally, Carter and his wife, Rosalynn, contributed to building, renovating, and repairing over 4,000 homes as dedicated ambassadors for Habitat for Humanity.
