The Kansas Education System Accreditation Model is meant to shape Kansas School District’s improvement efforts by emphasizing four key areas: structured literacy, standards alignment, balanced assessments, and quality instruction.
The Abilene School District’s primary focus is on enhancing quality instruction. According to Assistant Superintendent Dana Sprinkle, the district sets annual goals, while individual schools create tailored action plans aligned with district objectives.
Each school prioritizes goals based on its students’ needs, such as improving reading or math proficiency. Data analysis at both the district and individual student levels guides the process. Schools evaluate progress through inquiry cycles every three to four weeks, allowing them to adjust plans if necessary.
Specific goals include improving reading and math performance across all grade levels. For example, Kennedy aims for a 5% increase in reading proficiency, while McKinley focuses on reducing high-risk and some-risk student numbers. By 2025, Eisenhower, the middle school, and the high school target improvements in math and reading benchmarks, based on assessment scores.
