Multi-Generational Center to be Completed in September

The new Multi-Generational Life Center that will sit at the corner of 9th Street and 19th Road is likely to be completed in September.

“A lot is contingent on weather,” said Mayor Jimmy Thatcher.

He added that the city is still in pre-designing stages with architects. However, the exterior of the building has been set and materials ordered.

“We’ve received the grants and spent from them,” he said. “It’s happening but the timeline isn’t definite.”

Pre-dirt work has been completed and final dirt work will be completed in March.

“As it sits right now, that’s what we’ve got scheduled,” he said.

The city, through Grow Clay County and the Clay Center Community Improvement Foundation (CCCIF) is still raising funds to complete interior structures.

Thatcher said there are funds for the daycare, furniture, and other internal items.  The two gymnasiums may happen at a later date, depending on donations.

“The space for them is still there but the funds for things like flooring, lighting, sound systems, it’s not there at this point.”

In addition to the initial $3.6 million grant, another $1,189,44 has been raised in grants, tax credits, and private donations.

When complete, the Multi-Gen Center will host a senior center, community center, youth center, a Pawnee Mental Health area, childcare, an indoor walking track, and two indoor gyms.

More information can be found on the Grow Clay County website. Donations can be made through CCCIF.
