U.S. Department of Agriculture Director for Kansas Rural Development Christy Davis today (January 15th) announced that Rural Development is funding 54 projects to generate clean energy and improve energy efficiency in Kansas. The nearly $5.9 million in investments are made through the Rural Energy for America Program.
Today’s announcement is part of a larger national announcement including projects in 41 other states and territories. Locally one project was given funding.
- Schwartz Farms Inc. of Longford was given a $90,388 grant to replace heat lamps with heat mats. The project is estimated to save 202,326 kilowatt-hours per year, enough energy to power 18 homes.
Davis emphasized that expanding clean energy production benefits working families and small businesses in Kansas. Stating these projects are strengthening the state’s energy independence and helping rural small businesses take control of their energy needs.
