Erica Johnson Among 2025 Kansas Health Champion Award Recipients for Leadership in Community Wellness

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) and the Governor’s Council on Wellness (GCOW) honored the 2025 Kansas Health Champion Award recipients during the Community Health Promotion Summit on Jan. 23. Among those recognized was Great Bend native Erica (Mason) Johnson.

The Health Champion Award highlights individuals and organizations making outstanding contributions to wellness in Kansas, with additional honorable mentions in each category.

Erica Johnson, from Wilson County, has significantly enhanced community wellness through her leadership. As Marketing Director at Wilson Medical Center and Chairwoman of the Neodesha Active Transportation Advisory Board, she has spearheaded initiatives to expand fitness programs, create safe walking and biking paths, and improve healthcare access for underserved populations. A 2005 graduate of Great Bend High School, Erica has revitalized parks, supported youth-led tobacco prevention efforts, and championed policies for healthier, more active communities. Her work embodies a dedication to advancing health equity in Wilson County.

The 2025 Health Champions highlight how passionate leadership and collaboration can transform communities, inspire wellness, and build a healthier future for all Kansans.
