Representative Bill Bloom Spoke of Foreign Entities in Recent Newsletter

By: Ryan Duey

With the new Legislative Session underway in Topeka, State Representative Bill Bloom recently sent out a newsletter detailing different topics that he and the House have been working on.

One important piece of legislation that Bloom and his colleagues have been working on over the past years is keeping foreign-owned operations and dark money groups from using foreign money to meddle in U.S. elections. They are also trying to add restrictions on the foreign ownership of property and farmland in Kansas.

Last year the House attempted to pass a bill that would have added restrictions to the foreign sale of land and property, but it did not make it past Governor Laura Kelly. A 2022 USDA report stated that 2.4% of the 49 million acres of land in Kansas is owned by a foreign country. Bloom emphasized that he feels something can get passed this year under the new Legislation.

Bloom will be in Clay Center this Saturday, February 1st at the Clay County Museum to speak and hear from local citizens. He will speak at 1:00 p.m., followed by Stacey Rogers, who will be running for Kansas Governor, at 2:00 p.m.
