The Junction City Commission unanimously accepted the recently chosen Mayor, Jeff Underhill’s resignation during their recent Commission meeting. The city will now seek a replacement, and interested candidates must submit their resumes to City Manager Kim Zimmerman by next Tuesday for commissioner review. City Attorney Britain Stites stated that the vacancy needs to be filled by March 3rd.
Underhill resigned following the submission of a recall petition accusing him of misconduct, including the revocation of his insurance license due to fraud and deception. His resignation came before any action was taken to verify the petition or collect signatures.
Vice Mayor Pat Landes will assume mayoral duties on an interim basis while the commission works to fill the new role.
