AAA Urges Caution as Winter Storm Brings Heavy Snow to Northeast Kansas

With 5-8 inches of snow expected in northeast Kansas, AAA is advising drivers to prepare for hazardous conditions. Governor Laura Kelly has issued a state of disaster emergency ahead of the storm, which will bring multiple rounds of snow from Feb. 10-13.

AAA recommends checking tire tread and inflation, as cold weather can lower tire pressure. Have your battery tested, keep your gas tank at least half full to prevent freezing, and use a winter blend windshield wiper fluid. Ensure all vehicle lights are working properly.

For safe winter driving, AAA advises staying home if possible, checking road conditions, driving slowly, and increasing following distance. Avoid sudden braking and stopping on hills.

AAA also suggests keeping a winter emergency kit in your car with blankets, jumper cables, food, water, and a portable charger. Taking these precautions can help drivers stay safe during the storm.
