U.S. Senator Roger Marshall has introduced the One Flag for All Act, which would prohibit displaying any flag other than the American flag on federal buildings, with specific exemptions. The legislation is co-sponsored by Senators Cindy Hyde-Smith, Cynthia Lummis, and Roger Wicker, while Representative Diana Harshbarger introduced the House companion bill.
Originally introduced in 2023, the bill responds to the Biden Administration’s display of a Pride flag between two American flags at the White House, which Marshall argues violated U.S. Flag Code. The legislation would expand and formalize President Trump’s “One Flag Policy,” ensuring that only the U.S. flag is flown at federal sites domestically and abroad.
Exemptions include flags for POW/MIA recognition, military branches, states, federal agencies, visiting diplomats, Indian Tribes, and specific historical or commemorative events. Examples include the Betsy Ross flag, the Gadsden flag, the 9/11 memorial flag, and the Remembrance Day flag.
