Senator Marshall Supports Moving Food for Peace to USDA

Senator Roger Marshall is advocating for the transfer of the Food for Peace program from USAID to the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), citing concerns over inefficiencies and mismanagement. Marshall emphasized the program’s Kansas roots, tracing back to a local farmer’s generosity and President Dwight Eisenhower’s leadership.

While acknowledging potential challenges, Marshall sees an opportunity for increased collaboration between USDA and farmers, encouraging them to engage through local extension offices.

“Communicating with your local FSA office and your K-State County Extension office as well. Those folks do an amazing job. There are probably a dozen different nutrition programs already, and I think the Kansas Farm Bureau does a great job of understanding this program. Reach out to their leadership and make sure that you understand what opportunities you have,” said Marshall.

Long-term, he hopes this shift will enhance food security and efficiency while supporting American agriculture. He praised Senator Jerry Moran for leading efforts and remains committed to broader agricultural trade and economic issues.
