The Kansas Department of Commerce has awarded $3.47 million in Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding to support 12 housing rehabilitation and commercial revitalization projects across the state. With more than $4.33 million in local contributions, the total investment reaches approximately $7.8 million.
These funds enhance infrastructure while promoting business growth and housing stability. Highlights from the 2024 rolling round include:
- Emporia – Renovating a downtown commercial building with roof, gutter, and structural upgrades.
- Neodesha – Transforming the historic Brown Hotel into a restaurant, entertainment venue, office spaces, and 12 new apartments.
- Eureka – Repairing homes for low-to-moderate-income residents to improve safety and attract newcomers.
- Salina – Providing essential structural repairs for 12-14 homeowners who otherwise couldn’t afford them.
Administered by Commerce’s CDBG program, these federal funds support housing, public facilities, and economic needs. To qualify, projects must benefit low-to-moderate-income individuals, eliminate blight, or address urgent local needs. CDBG remains a key resource for Kansas’ small and rural communities.
