Representative Sharice Davids helped lead a bipartisan effort to make child care more affordable and accessible through a new legislative package. The Child Care Availability and Affordability Act and the Child Care Workforce Act aim to reduce child care costs and expand provider access by strengthening tax credits.
Davids introduced the package alongside Representatives Salud Carbajal, Mike Lawler, and Juan Ciscomani, as well as Senators Katie Britt and Tim Kaine. The legislation would increase tax breaks for businesses that assist employees with child care, allow workers to set aside more tax-free income for child care expenses, and improve wages for child care workers to support program quality.
Committed to addressing child care challenges in Kansas, Davids previously introduced the bipartisan Affordable Child Care Act to double key tax credits and provide direct financial relief to parents. She also supported expanding the Child Tax Credit, benefiting 136,000 Kansas children. To highlight the impact of federal investments, she has toured local child care facilities and visited Head Start programs, emphasizing their role in supporting both families and child care providers.
