Red Flag Warning Issued Due to Critical Fire Weather Conditions

A Red Flag Warning is in effect today for large parts of Nebraska, Kansas, and southwest Iowa due to critical fire weather conditions. The warning lasts from noon to 8 p.m. CDT (11 a.m. to 7 p.m. MDT), with strong winds, low humidity, and unseasonably warm temperatures increasing wildfire risks.

In Kansas, the warning covers much of north-central, northeast, and east-central regions, with southwest winds of 10-20 mph, gusts up to 30 mph, and humidity as low as 13 percent. Eastern Nebraska and southwest Iowa will see similar conditions, with winds up to 35 mph.

Officials urge residents to avoid outdoor burning and secure flammable materials. Any fires that start could spread rapidly and be difficult to contain. Emergency crews remain on high alert.
