Governor Laura Kelly, Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) Secretary Calvin Reed, and local leaders gathered Friday to celebrate the groundbreaking of the I-70 Polk-Quincy Viaduct project.
The 2.5-mile stretch of I-70, running from Macvicar Avenue to 6th Avenue in Topeka, will undergo improvements aimed at enhancing safety, reducing congestion, and boosting connectivity to surrounding areas.
The $239 million project, part of KDOT’s Eisenhower Legacy Transportation Program (IKE), has been awarded to Bettis Koss Construction, a joint venture of Bettis Asphalt & Construction Inc. and Koss Construction Co., both based in Topeka. Construction is underway and expected to continue until late 2027, depending on conditions.
