Riley County has used a $50,000 grant from the Kansas Department of Health and Environment’s (KDHE) Local Environmental Protection Program (LEPP) to fully cover an alternative wastewater system replacement and help with a standard lateral field replacement for two local residents. A portion of the grant is still available for other residents in need.
The county is now accepting applications for the remaining LEPP funds, which can assist with septic tank and lateral field repairs or replacements, as well as component repairs like septic tank lids and pipes. The funds can also help with connecting homes to public sewer systems, but not wastewater connection fees. Applications are due by 5:00 p.m. on Monday, May 5, 2025.
Grant awards will depend on factors like income and need, and the work must be done by a licensed contractor. All funds must be allocated by June 30, 2025. For more information, visit the Riley County website or contact the Planning and Development Department.
An application form for the grant can be found on the Riley County website, in the Applications and Permits section of the Planning and Development Department or at https://www.rileycountyks.gov/DocumentCenter/View/23762/LEPP-Application?bidId=
