Woody started his Industrial Arts teaching and coaching career in the Fall of 1965 at Windom High School, followed by teaching at: Blue Valley, Topeka High School, return to Blue Valley and finished at Axtell. He enjoyed being with the students and staff members while he continued to be a substitute teacher in the area schools. Woody was an active member of the Olsburg Lutheran Church, where he served on the church council and held a variety of positions. There was no greater joy in his life than watching his children and grandchildren as they participated in sports, church and school activities. He was very proud of each of them as he watched them excel in their activities.
A highlight of Woody’s college life was being able to travel with three of his friends from Emporia State University to attend the funeral of John F. Kennedy in Washington D.C. in 1963. Following his trip to Washington D.C., he had a dream of taking his own children back there so they could also see where John F. Kennedy was buried and all the historical landmarks he had enjoyed. In the summer of 2003, that dream became a reality as his family traveled to Washington D.C. to tour the famous landmarks he had seen in 1963. Woody’s family also traveled by Amtrak from Washington D.C. to New York City and being able to attend a New York Yankees baseball game.
