Kansas Named National Innovation Champion in 2025 CTA Scorecard for Leadership in Tech and Economic Growth

On April 10, Governor Laura Kelly announced that Kansas has been named an Innovation Champion—the highest ranking—in the Consumer Technology Association’s (CTA) 2025 Innovation Scorecard. This honor recognizes Kansas’ strong focus on innovation, economic development, and quality of life.

The CTA’s seventh U.S. Innovation Scorecard evaluated all 50 states using 54 indicators across 11 categories. Kansas is one of just 12 states to earn the Innovation Champion title, and one of only six to repeat the achievement from CTA’s 2023 Scorecard.

This year, CTA added four new categories to reflect emerging areas in tech innovation:

  • Blockchain: Reviews state policies supporting blockchain technology.
  • Data Privacy: Measures how well states balance innovation and data protection.
  • Grid Preparedness: Compares energy demand with supply to assess power infrastructure.
  • Manufacturing: Looks at the number of manufacturers, manufacturing’s share of GDP, and workforce growth.

These new categories build on the seven from 2023, helping track states’ progress in advancing innovation. Learn more about CTA’s 2025 Global Innovation Scorecard here.
