Kansas Highway Patrol Warns of Scam Texts Posing as Shirt Fundraiser

The Kansas Highway Patrol is alerting the public about a scam text message falsely promoting discounted shirts in support of the agency. The message includes a suspicious link and is not connected to or approved by the Kansas Highway Patrol.

Officials say the text is part of a “smishing” scam — a phishing attempt sent via SMS — aimed at tricking people into sharing personal information.

Authorities urge recipients not to click on the link and to avoid engaging with the message in any way.

Anyone who receives similar messages is encouraged to report them to the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center at www.ic3.gov to assist in tracking and shutting down the scam.
