Lieutenant Governor and Commerce Secretary David Toland has announced that 108 organizations across Kansas will receive a share of $1 million in grants from the Kansas Arts Commission (KAC). The funding supports nonprofit arts programs, local governments, and higher education institutions, all of which must provide a dollar-for-dollar match.
The grants underscore KAC’s impact on community development and the state’s creative economy. In 2023, Kansas’ arts and culture sector supported nearly 50,000 jobs and contributed $5.47 billion to the state’s economy.
Funding for the grants comes from the Kansas Legislature and the National Endowment for the Arts.
“These grants will support an array of organizations and initiatives that will enrich the appeal of these communities, encourage innovation and drive economic growth,” Lieutenant Governor and Secretary of Commerce David Toland said. “Arts shape the unique character of our Kansas communities and through these awards, community leaders and artists can continue investing locally while opening doors to new opportunities and experiences for residents and visitors alike.”
Grants were awarded in four program categories:
- Arts Everywhere Program: 21 recipients received a total of $235,873
- General Operating Support: 70 recipients received $635,653
- Public Art & Murals Grants: 12 recipients received $91,474
- Visiting Artists Program: 5 recipients received $37,000
