The Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) has announced that the Kansas Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program (KSFMNP) launched on July 14. This program provides eligible seniors with coupons to buy fresh produce and honey at participating farmers markets throughout the state.
The program was delayed, but KDHE thanks Kansas seniors and local farmers for their patience. Officials say the program aims to improve access to healthy, local food for seniors while also supporting Kansas farmers.
Seniors qualify if they are 60 or older, or at least 55 and a member of an Indian Tribal Organization. Income must be at or below 185% of the federal poverty level, based on gross household income before taxes.
Applications are open through September 30, but seniors are encouraged to apply early due to limited coupon availability. Each eligible participant will receive $50 in coupons to use at authorized vendors, marked with signs indicating they accept KSFMNP coupons.
Eligible items include fresh, unprepared fruits and vegetables, Kansas-grown honey, and cut herbs. Full program details, including eligibility and vendor locations, are available on the KSFMNP website.
