The Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks announced that effective July 25, 2025, a new statewide regulation for Blue Catfish is now in effect in Kansas. Anglers may keep up to 10 Blue Catfish of any size, but only one fish may be longer than 30 inches. For example, a catch could include ten fish under 30 inches or nine smaller fish and one over 30 inches.

This regulation applies statewide with the following exceptions:

  • Milford Reservoir: 10 fish daily, protected slot of 28–40 inches, only one over 40 inches
  • Kanopolis Reservoir: 5 fish daily, minimum length of 35 inches
  • Pomona & LaCygne Reservoirs: 5 fish daily, any size
  • Missouri River & Browning Oxbow: 5 fish daily, only one over 30 inches
  • Select Southeast & South Central Kansas rivers: 10 fish daily, any size (see page 12 of the regulations booklet)

The change is designed to boost harvest opportunities while helping manage fish populations and promote better growth rates.
