The Kansas Department of Health and Enviornment (KDHE) released an air quality health advisory due to winds bringing wildfire smoke from Canada into Kansas, with central and eastern parts of the state experiencing the most impact. These smoky conditions are expected to continue through today, August 1 and tomorrow, August 2. The Air Quality Index (AQI) may fluctuate between Moderate and Unhealthy levels during this time. Residents can check current air quality, AQI, and fire activity in their area at fire.airnow.gov.

To protect your health during smoky conditions:

  • Limit or avoid strenuous outdoor activity, especially if you’re healthy.
  • Vulnerable individuals, including children, the elderly, and those with respiratory conditions, should stay indoors.
  • Keep indoor air clean by closing doors and windows and using air conditioners with filters.
  • Drink plenty of water to stay hydrated.

Seek medical attention if you experience chest pain, tightness, shortness of breath, or extreme fatigue.
