Orange & Black Pack to Host Annual Golf Tournament August 16th

The annual Orange & Black Pack golf tournament will take place at the Clay Center Country Club on August 16th. Teams of four will tee off at 9 am to compete in 18 holes of fundraising fun, followed by lunch.

OBP President, Jericho Hammond, said participants do not have to belong to the Country Club.

“You don’t have to be a member and you don’t have to be a good golfer,” she said. “This is truly set up as a fun day as a way to support our teens.”

In past years there have been specialized contests and themes per hole.

“The platform of this is the fun interactions of the community members who have the same end goal to support our youth.”

Hammond said that 70% of students are supported by OBP throughout the year, whether they are involved in athletics, clubs, or other activities.

Structured as a booster club, Orange & Black Pack is run by parent volunteers who work to fund various equipment, food, admission, and more for extracurricular activities.

In past years, the group has funded snacks, themed décor for sports games, admission to post-season games, athletic equipment, cameras for yearbook classes, musical instruments for the band, and more.

“At the beginning of the school year each organization gets a request that they can submit,” Hammond said. From there, the volunteers determine how funds can reach the most kids and spread equally across what groups are supported.

“The golf tournament has increased our support drastically; we can now help multiple activities each year.”

Families or individuals can also purchase memberships to the group, which adds to the booster’s funds.

“The coolest thing is how many students across the board that we get to support,” she said. “It’s not just athletes, not just kids in a certain activity. We’re helping spread school spirit and get them the items they request.”
