Barton Community College has partnered with Hutchinson Community College (HutchCC) to expand respiratory care education and address a critical workforce shortage in central Kansas.
Under a new Memorandum of Understanding, Barton students can complete general education courses at Barton, then transition into HutchCC’s Respiratory Care Program.
Barton Dean of Workforce Training & Community Education Dr. Kathy Kottas said the idea grew from talks with healthcare providers across Barton’s nine-hospital service area, many of whom face looming staff retirements.
Barton President Dr. Marcus Garstecki and HutchCC President Dr. Tricia Paramore praised the collaboration, noting community colleges’ shared commitment to workforce development.
