By: Ryan Duey

On Saturday, September 27th, the Clay Center Courthouse Square will be full of vendors, food trucks, and citizens during Clay Center’s annual Piotique Celebration. Since 1936, Piotique has celebrated the area’s pioneer and antique heritage.

This year’s theme, titled ‘Stars, Stripes, and Small Town Pride,’ will celebrate Clay Center’s 150th Anniversary, honoring the community’s rich history.

Kathryn Doster-Tipsword, Grow Clay County Event Coordinator, said this event brings people together for a weekend of fun.”

“The weekend just brings people back together for a special weekend of fun, and I think it means a lot to a lot of people.”

“It’s a good weekend for class reunions and just getting together and spending time with the people you love and care about.”

“Also, celebrating somebody who’s done a lot of good in this community and doesn’t get recognized every day, dedicating a weekend to our Grand Marshal is, I think, very special.”

Hosted by Grow Clay County, the annual celebration will start on Friday morning with a Groundbreaking Ceremony for the Multi-Generational Life Center at 10:00 a.m. Saturday will offer attendees a full day of events, starting with a 10K and 2-mile race at 7:00 a.m.

Throughout the day, attendees can enjoy events and activities including the T-Rex Race, the Grand Parade, Dance Performances, a Petting zoo, a pie eating contest, multiple vendors, and much more. The evening will finish up with the Jayhusker Races at the Clay County Fairgrounds, and a Concert featuring the band Time Rebellion at 8:00 p.m.

This year’s Piotique Grand Marshal is former USD 379 teacher Brad Connor. Connor dedicated 40 years to his students and the community while at USD 379.
