Advocacy Groups Launch Statewide Tour on Federal Cuts, Food and Health Care Access

Three statewide advocacy organizations are teaming up to highlight how recent federal budget cuts could affect Kansas families. From Sept. 29 to Oct. 2, Kansas Action for Children, the Alliance for a Healthy Kansas, and Kansas Appleseed will host community events in Garden City, Hutchinson, Iola, and Manhattan.

The events come in response to the reconciliation bill, passed by Congress in July, which makes deep cuts to federal funding. Advocates warn the reductions will force the Kansas Legislature to make difficult decisions that could impact access to food and health care for years to come.

Organizers say the forums will address three major issues: food insecurity and access, health care access and Medicaid expansion, and tax policy tied to family financial stability.

The goal is to give Kansans a clear understanding of the challenges ahead and create space for communities to work together on solutions.
