The Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) has received regional recognition for two projects in the 2025 America’s Transportation Awards. The De Soto Local Road Improvements Project and the Safer Roads Ahead with the Kansas VRUSA Tool were honored for their contributions to safety and quality of life in Kansas communities.

The De Soto Local Road Improvements project, a medium-sized initiative, was recognized in the Quality of Life/Community Development category. It included upgrades to local roads, new turn lanes, and a bridge improvement, enhancing traffic flow, safety, and economic growth.

The Kansas VRUSA Tool project, a small-sized initiative, earned honors in the Safety category. The tool uses data to identify high-risk areas and guide targeted safety measures, improving road safety for drivers, cyclists, pedestrians, and transit users.

Both projects will advance to the national “Top 12,” competing for the Grand Prize and People’s Choice Award, with winners announced at AASHTO’s annual meeting in November 2025.
