Wichita State University has announced that its School of Nursing will now be named the Ascension Via Christi — Wichita State University School of Nursing, honoring a decades-long partnership with one of Kansas’ leading health care providers.
The naming recognizes Via Christi’s investment in the Wichita Biomedical Campus, a collaborative initiative between Wichita State University, WSU Tech, and the University of Kansas. The campus aims to transform health care education in Kansas by fostering interdisciplinary collaboration and interprofessional learning.
With more than 400 WSU nursing alumni currently employed at Via Christi, the partnership strengthens the state’s nursing workforce and supports a sustainable talent pipeline across education and practice. The naming highlights Wichita State’s growing national profile and underscores Via Christi’s role as both a major employer and key clinical training site.
Phase I of the Wichita Biomedical Campus, set to open in 2027, will anchor the south end of Wichita’s Biomedical Corridor, while Via Christi St. Francis anchors the north, creating a direct pathway from classroom to patient care. The campus is expected to attract students, educators, and researchers nationwide, marking a new era in health care education.
