Chiefs Drop Season Opener to Chargers in Brazil, 27-21

The Kansas City Chiefs opened the 2025 season with a 27-21 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers on Friday night in Brazil.

Patrick Mahomes nearly sparked another comeback, connecting with Hollywood Brown on a 49-yard strike late in the fourth to set up a field goal and cut the deficit to six. But Justin Herbert’s 19-yard scramble sealed the game for L.A.

Kansas City committed 10 penalties, missed an extra point, and lost receiver Xavier Worthy to injury early. Despite those setbacks, Mahomes completed 24-of-39 passes for 258 yards and a touchdown, adding a rushing score.

Head Coach Andy Reid cited a flat first half as costly, while Mahomes stressed the need for faster starts. The Chiefs host the Philadelphia Eagles next Sunday at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium.
