Advena Living Closed, Will Not Reopen Due to KDADS Complaint

In early August, residents of Advena Living in Clay Center reported to KCLY that they had been moved due to black mold within the location’s ductwork.

The building is located at 715 Liberty Street and formerly served as Medicalodge.

A letter was released from Advena on August 26th stating that the facility will permanently close. They previously reached out to families on August 7th to state that they had received a complaint about mold from KDADS (Kansas Department for Aging and Disability Services) on August 6th

They explained, “At that time, it was discovered that there may be mold on some of the AC units. Facility staff cleaned the units per CDC and OSHA recommendations; however, due to the concern of mold being in the venting systems, KDADS required the facility to evacuate all residents.”

In addition, Advena said the original intent was to remediate and reopen the facility, however, the costs were not sustainable.

Families were advised on how to move forward with placement for their family member and how to obtain medical records.

In a County Commissioners meeting, CCMC CEO, Austin Gillard, said they do own the building, but the lease specified that the tenant was responsible for building maintenance and upkeep.

Advena Group is headquartered in Manhattan, KS and has six additional locations.

Additional information will be available as it is obtained.
