Kansas Gov. Laura Kelly has issued a verbal state of disaster emergency for counties affected by flooding.

On Monday, several counties west of Salina received more than a foot of rainfall, with south central Kansas also impacted. The declaration allows state resources to be directed toward providing assistance.

The Kansas Division of Emergency Management has partially activated the State Emergency Operations Center in Topeka to monitor conditions and help counties as needed.

Saline County reports a flood warning remains in effect, with river levels expected to rise through Wednesday.

Residents are urged to avoid driving through floodwaters, as even shallow, fast-moving water can sweep away vehicles.
