Clay Center High School Head Volleyball Coach Robert Moran was the guest speaker during the Clay Center Lions Club meeting on September 16th. Moran spoke about this year’s squad and their strong start to the season.
The varsity team is sitting at 14-2 to start the season, and 4-0 in the NCKL. Moran spoke about the depth and talent of this year’s squad.
“I’ve got a great group this year, the depth, the talent, and the quality of the kids. I feel like the quality of our kids ever since I’ve been here has been top-notch.”
“I just can’t say enough about the kids that we have in our program right now, and it doesn’t hurt that they’re talented too. We’ve got a lot of good kids.”
“We have three seniors out this year: Braylee Langvardt, Miley McGee, and Savanah Bloomdahl. All three of them have stepped up this year, and they’re playing their roles well, doing a great job as seniors.”
Moran said they also have a great group of underclassmen, including a strong freshman squad, who went 5-0 and won their recent tournament.
Due to their talent and experience all around, Moran said this team isn’t afraid to take on anyone. One of his goals was to add bigger and tougher schools to the schedule.
“Our goal the last few years has been to really toughen our schedule.
“We’ve decided that, with having to play like a Bishop Miege or a Topeka Hayden at the state tournament, we’ve got to be able to play some of those teams during the year to be prepared for those tournament games.”
Moran is excited for this year’s team, and expectations are high again this year in the North Central Kansas League.
