Congressman Derek Schmidt announced that his office is accepting applications from Kansas students interested in seeking a nomination to attend a U.S. military service academy for the Class of 2030.

Members of Congress may nominate a select number of candidates each year for appointment to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, the U.S. Naval Academy, the U.S. Air Force Academy, and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy. Students who receive a nomination are then reviewed by the admissions board of the respective academy.

“Service academies provide exceptional opportunities for young Kansans to pursue higher education while preparing to serve our country as officers in the Armed Forces,” Schmidt said. “I encourage all qualified students who are interested in military service to apply.”

To qualify, applicants must be U.S. citizens, at least 17 years old but under 23, unmarried, and have no dependents. Those applying through Congressman Schmidt must also reside in the 2nd Congressional District. Application packets are due to Schmidt’s Topeka office by October 15.

Full eligibility details, instructions, and application materials are available on Congressman Schmidt’s website.
