Clay County Medical Center (CCMC) has been recognized among the nation’s cleanest hospitals, earning a coveted 5-star cleanliness rating from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). CCMC is one of only 368 hospitals nationwide and just 17 hospitals in Kansas to achieve this top honor.
The ratings are based on results from the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) surveys, which capture patient experiences between October 1, 2023, and September 30, 2024. The survey evaluates key aspects of hospital care, including cleanliness of facilities.
“This recognition is a direct reflection of the pride and dedication our staff take every single day to ensure Clay County Medical Center provides a safe, welcoming, and high-quality environment for our patients,” said CEO Austin Gillard.
Nationally, CCMC’s five-star rating places it in the top 6% of facilities among major hospitals like the Mayo Clinic (Jacksonville, FL), Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary (Boston, MA), and UPMC hospitals in Pennsylvania, as well as rural and critical access facilities such as Tahoe Forest Hospital (Truckee, CA), Aspen Valley Hospital (CO), and Mosaic Medical Center–Maryville (MO).
The recognition reinforces CCMC’s role as a leading healthcare provider in rural Kansas, where patients can expect care that rivals that of nationally recognized urban hospitals.
“This isn’t just about cleanliness, but it’s about patient trust, safety, and peace of mind,” said EVS Director Heather Robinson. “We are proud to show that CCMC can achieve the same level of excellence as some of the most well-known hospitals in America.”
