Washburn University Sees Third Year of Enrollment Growth, Driven by Record Numbers at Washburn Tech and Law School

Washburn University’s enrollment is rising for the third consecutive year, fueled by record-breaking numbers at Washburn Institute of Technology (Washburn Tech) and the largest incoming class in 15 years at Washburn School of Law.

Overall, full-time equivalent (FTE) enrollment grew 5.8%, with the University increasing 3.5% and Washburn Tech seeing a 15.5% jump, including a 31% rise in postsecondary and adult students. Total enrollment across the institution now stands at 7,722 students, with 6,170 at the University and 1,552 at Tech.

At the University level, several programs are seeing notable enrollment increases:

  • Allied Health – nearly 18% growth as students pursue careers in healthcare
  • Biology – nearly 16% increase in students preparing for medicine and environmental science
  • Education – more than 11% growth among aspiring teachers

Washburn School of Law reports a 9.2% increase in enrollment, welcoming 139 new students, the largest and most highly credentialed incoming class since 2010. Washburn Tech also reached a historic milestone with total enrollment exceeding 1,500 students, marking the highest numbers in its history.

The continued growth underscores Washburn’s role in providing diverse educational opportunities and preparing students for in-demand careers across the region.
