Seasonal flu and COVID-19 vaccines are now available at the Riley County Health Department, 2030 Tecumseh Road. Walk-ins are welcome, or appointments are available by calling 785-776-4779 ext. 7675.
“Our goal is to make it as easy as possible for people to access healthcare and treatment options,” said Jacob Clarke, public health clinic supervisor. “We offer seasonal vaccines as a walk-in service, and our team will help you move through the process quickly so you can get back to your day.”
The health department can bill most insurance plans, including KanCare, Medicare and TRICARE. Patients should bring identification and insurance cards, if available. Some vaccines may be offered at low to no cost to uninsured patients. Anyone with questions about cost is encouraged to call the health department at 785-776-4779 ext. 7600.
This year’s Flu-Tober Fest vaccine clinic is scheduled for Oct. 16–17 and Oct. 20–24. Children who receive a vaccine during the event will get a free pie pumpkin courtesy of A&H Farms. During Flu-Tober Fest, uninsured adults and children will be eligible to receive a free flu shot thanks to a generous grant from the Memorial Hospital Association.
Likewise, Riley County Health Department’s public health clinic will be open for an additional hour on Tuesday (October 21, 8:30 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.) and Wednesday (October 22, 8:30 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.) to help increase access for the event.
Vaccines and immunizations are also available at most local healthcare providers and pharmacies.
Seasonal vaccines may cause mild side effects such as sore muscles, fatigue or fever that usually last no longer than a day or two. These potential side effects do not mean a person has the flu or COVID-19.
The mission of the Riley County Health Department is to promote and protect the health and safety of our community through evidence-based practices, prevention, and education.
