Kansas State fell 35-34 to Baylor on Saturday after a potential game-winning 56-yard field goal attempt by Luis Rodriguez was blocked with five seconds left.
Quarterback Avery Johnson completed 29 of 45 passes for 339 yards and two touchdowns while adding 72 rushing yards and a score. K-State led 31-17 late in the third quarter before Baylor rallied. A 66-yard interception return gave the Bears a 32-31 lead, and after a short K-State field goal, Baylor’s Connor Hawkins hit a 53-yarder with 31 seconds remaining.
The Wildcats outgained Baylor 501-443 and controlled possession but suffered their fourth one-score loss of the season. Jayce Brown led K-State receivers with 106 yards and a touchdown.
Head coach Chris Klieman said he was proud of his team’s effort despite the mistakes as K-State dropped to 2-4 overall and 1-2 in Big 12 play.
