The Kansas City Royals closed their 2025 season with a 9-2 win over the Athletics on Sunday, finishing 82-80. Cole Ragans pitched 4 1/3 scoreless innings, and Carter Jensen hit a 482-foot home run, the longest by a Royal since Statcast began in 2015.
It marked just the sixth winning season for Kansas City in the past 25 years, but players and staff said they are not satisfied. The team missed the playoffs, finishing third in the AL Central behind Cleveland and Detroit.
Bobby Witt Jr. led MLB in hits for the second straight year, while Vinnie Pasquantino and Salvador Perez each hit 30 home runs with 100 RBIs. Injuries and inconsistency slowed the team, but the core roster remains intact.
General manager J.J. Picollo said the team will focus this offseason on improving offensive production and building consistency for 2026.
