Washburn University’s Biology Department will host the 17th annual Women in Science Day on Tuesday, Oct. 14, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event invites seventh-grade girls to campus for a free day of hands-on science activities, experiments, and fun learning experiences.

This year, 270 students will take part in 16 different labs, covering topics like CPR, coding, and psychology. Female scientists and professionals from Washburn, local organizations, and state agencies will lead the sessions.

Kelly Farlow, vice president of transportation engineering at Professional Engineering Consultants, will deliver the keynote address at 9:30 a.m.

Students from several area schools and homeschool groups will attend.

The event is sponsored by Washburn University and its partners, along with organizations such as the Kansas Department of Health and Environment, Advisors Excel, and the Kansas Water Office, all working together to inspire the next generation of women in science.
