Kansas State defeated Kansas 42-17 on Saturday in the Sunflower Showdown, extending its winning streak over the Jayhawks to 17 straight games and keeping the Governor’s Cup in Manhattan.
Quarterback Avery Johnson led the Wildcats with 213 passing yards, two touchdown passes, and two rushing scores. Receiver Jayce Brown caught four passes for 160 yards, including a 78-yard touchdown that sealed the game late in the third quarter.
K-State led 21-14 at halftime and outscored Kansas 21-3 in the second half. The Wildcats forced four turnovers and recorded four sacks, limiting Kansas quarterback Jalon Daniels to 129 passing yards.
With the win, Kansas State improved to 4-4 overall and 3-2 in the Big 12. Kansas fell to 4-4 and 2-3. The Wildcats now hold the longest active winning streak in an uninterrupted FBS rivalry series.
