Haggerty Named to Jerry West Award Watch List

Kansas State junior guard P.J. Haggerty was named one of 20 preseason candidates for the Jerry West Award, which honors the nation’s top shooting guard. The award, presented by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, is in its 12th year.

Haggerty, one of five Big 12 players on the list, was a finalist for the award last season. Fans can vote for him at hoophallawards.com, with rounds of voting scheduled through February before the final five are selected.

The former Memphis standout earned multiple preseason All-America honors and was named to the All-Big 12 preseason team. In K-State’s exhibition win over Missouri, he scored 23 points with six assists and two steals.

Haggerty ranked third nationally in scoring last season, averaging 21.7 points per game. The Wildcats host Newman on Friday before opening the season Nov. 4 against UNC Greensboro.
