The Clay Counts Coalition sponsors and pays for the Youth Leaders in Kansas organizations at Wakefield, CCCMS, and CCCHS. These programs have been thriving with increased membership, fun activities, and a special event last week.
The annual Kansas YLinK State Conference brought together nearly 200 student leaders from Kansas City to Garden City on Tuesday, Nov. 4.
The CCCHS YLinK chapter was chosen to host the event, which was a huge honor. It was led by sponsor Lori Martin.
It was held at the Midwest Dream Car Collection in Manhattan. The event, themed “Understanding the Mechanics of You!”, offered a full day of engaging sessions designed to help students discover their strengths, develop teamwork skills, and learn how to serve their communities more effectively.
The day began with an inspiring keynote presentation by Kristen O’Shea, former Kansas State Senator and CEO of O’Shea Strength Coaching. Kristen encouraged students to explore their unique talents and use them to make a positive impact. Throughout the day, students attended breakout sessions that focused on leadership development, personal growth, and healthy relationships. Topics included identifying personal strengths, using those strengths to serve others, and emotional first aid.
Between sessions, students connected over Happy Hippie Smoothies, Tasty Pastry donuts, and a catered lunch from The Farm House.
CCCHS YLinK students spoke and led activities throughout the day, so it was a positive experience on multiple fronts. More than anything, USD 379 is seen as a trendsetter in youth leadership development.
