Last week, U.S. Senator Roger Marshall M.D. introduced the Better Food Disclosure Act, or Better FDA, aimed at improving how the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) tracks and reviews food ingredients. The bill would require food companies to report the ingredients they use to the FDA. It builds on state-level efforts to strengthen food safety across the country.

The legislation would also make it easier for state officials and concerned citizens to ask the FDA to review the safety of ingredients already in the food supply, including food dyes, additives, and other substances not currently reported to the federal government.

Better FDA is seen as a key step in boosting public confidence in the nation’s food supply and reinforcing the FDA’s role in protecting public health.
