The Royals made several roster decisions Friday as part of MLB’s tender deadline. Kansas City agreed to a one-year, $8 million contract with infielder Jonathan India, avoiding arbitration and keeping him for 2026 after a season in which he hit .233 with a .323 on-base percentage. India, acquired last year from Cincinnati, had been viewed as a possible non-tender candidate.
The club non-tendered outfielder MJ Melendez and reliever Taylor Clarke, making both free agents. Melendez, once a Top 100 prospect, never found consistent production at the Major League level and hit .083 in limited action this past season.
Kansas City also added right-hander Alex Lange on a one-year deal to bolster the bullpen. The Royals tendered contracts to their remaining arbitration-eligible players, including pitchers Kris Bubic, Daniel Lynch IV and Angel Zerpa, along with infielders Maikel Garcia and Vinnie Pasquantino.
